Her talk covers the relationship between graphic design and hyper-consumerism, and her personal story of becoming a designer while concerned about climate change. Even though being a graphic designer seems incompatible with being a climate activist, she discovers inspirational ideas and new ways of working towards positive social change.

Minami Hirayama

Graphic Designer & Author, Independent

Minami Hirayama is graphic designer and environmental activist. After studying Communication Design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, she has worked at multiple design studios to specialise in graphic and editorial design. She finished her MA in Graphic Communication Design at Danish Royal Academy in 2022. During her MA study, she wrote a book "With Dilemmas From the Future: What can graphic designers do in the era of climate crisis?". Her focus is to work on projects that create a positive change in society, to tackle climate crisis and social injustice.
